My TOS :
1996 Had ganglion cyst removed from top left wrist, was then told my non tos surgeon that my problem was not my cyst, but TOS. That was the first time I heard the term. For the next year and half I struggled thru Physical Therapy(PT) to relieve the pain generating from lft shoulder down to hand. I could no longer take the pain and the PT was not helping. 1998 Jan I was sent to neurologist and had TOS surgery, entered thru left clavicle, removed scalene muscle and first rib bone to allow room for nerves and vessels, however my pain continued. I was then told 6 months postop that I had double crush syndrome(TOS and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome), which was not uncommon. 1998 Aug I had Cubital Tunnel Syndrome(Ulnar Transposition above the muscle) by TOS surgeon. Surgery seemed to relieve some of the overall pain, but then I began to have sx(symptons) in my right arm. 1998 Dec Not as extreme as I had with my lft arm for so long, however I did not want to have the permanant damage I believe caused due to waiting for the surgery as I did. Therefor I chose to have Cubital Tunnel Syndrome surgery (Ulnar Transposition above the muscle) before any long term sx's continued. I am not sorry at all for choosing to allow them to open up my other inner arm, as so far so good. 1999 I had plastic surgeon shoot steroid into both my cubital tunnel scars as they became keloids(scarring overgrowth) and flatten out the height of the scar. My TOS scar stayed a thin line, but still having pain in arm and hope I don't have internal scarring causing the pain. Difficult to know unless they go in again, which I have chosen not to do since it may cause more scarring. Should it become unbarable, then I will change my mind. 2002 Addsens manuever showed that I had no pulse, which may reflect TOS in my right area. 2005 May Still experiencing Lft pain extreme like before sometimes, but still happier than I was before. My lft elbow can have period of pain when bent, so I have to keep it straight as much as possible during these times of flaring pain. Right side elbow fine, but noticing some pain in arm, still have positive Addsen manuever for TOS. Since I was about 25yrs old I have been plagued with many medical issues, after I was in my early 30's I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. And unfortunately enjoyed many of the ailments of it over the years. Past 3yrs the Chronic Fatigue hit me hard and it has been difficult. I am contiplating disability if I continue this progression, as it is becoming all to overwhelming and exhausting since I started so, so young in my life with these ailments. Possible causes of my TOS? When I was 19yrs old I hit a dirt wall(unrestrained) at about 40 mph and placed my head in the windshield, fortunately without any visible injury(possible neck problem if I recall). I was rearended and caused a rearend on another past 15yrs. Motor vehicle accidents I heard can be a factor of having TOS. For 8yrs I cared for my own children in addition ran a daycare. I am curious since my dominant hand was my right, I carried the children most of the day on my left, which may have caused constant pulling on that arm. It it a theory or maybe just an addition to what damage I had prior in Motor Vehicle Accidents. One other thing haunts me, is when I sleep I have a tendency to sleep with both my arms above my head if i sleep on my back, which wakes me often, due to them both being without circulation for who know how long. I think I have only met one other person on a forum that has a unvoluntary behavior such as that. That all folk..... :o)
None.
