My TOS :
I was 13 when I first noticed problems and was told by parents and doctors that it was "growing pains". When I was 17 I went back for an X-ray at Southend General Hospital and my extra rib was missed. I went to see my GP in September 2003 after being in excrutiating pain and noticing a slight blueness to my hand. I was referd to Mr. Michael Salter who sent me for a CT scan, and to Mr. Michael Jenkins in London for a Duplex Scan, X-Ray and consultation. He explained about the condition and how we can rectify the problem. I did have to fight back the tears as I was horrified at what was going to be happenening. He has recommended surgery and I am booked in for 12 February 2004. I am petrified and haven't slept a decents nights sleep since the beginning of January and am exhausted. The thought of needles, pain and chest drains is too much and is constantly on my mind. Am glad to see that I am not on my own.
I had my op on 12th February and I was terrified. Surgery took 4 hrs and when I woke up I was amazed just to see a wound drain and drip. The pain wasn't that bad as the anesetic hadn't worn off yet, but when it did I was still pretty surprised that it wasnt as horrific as I imagined. I was allowed to go home 2 days later and was given Paracetamol and a mild anti-inflamitory. I still have pins and needles in my arm and hand and have minimal movement but can move my arm above my head and all over the space! I went for a follow up consultation and had my stich removed to be told that the op was a sucess and the problem has gone. However the problem has started on my opposite side and I have to keep an eye on it. Its not causing me any problems at the mo. So I am happy.
