My TOS :
I was in a car accident in November 2002, right after I started gradaute school in Texas. The seat broke in the impact and the shoulder belt was the only thing keeping me in the car. I had pretty severe injuries, including three herniated disks and "trapezius muscle strain". The first doc I went to focused on the disks and had me treated for those. I went through a few rounds of PT and the symptosm improved while I was in PT, but came back right after I stopped. After the first doc didn't return my calls (he was busy, it wasn't that he didn't want to return them), I saw a neuro. The neuro diagnosed me almsot right away with TOS after listening to my symptoms, their etiology (car accident) and doign a few maneuevers, gave me a tentative diagnosis of TOS. Then, after the EMG/NCV, I was formally given the diagnosis. I am still in gradaute school, going after my PhD in Clinical Psychology. I have been going full time since the injury :). Anyway, with muscle relaxers and PT I have it pretty much under control, but I do have flare ups when I work too hard. The tingling never really goes away and I have some constant level of pain, but it's nothing I can't deal with. :) Anyway, I just finished the work for my MA in clinical psychology, which I get in a few days. I hope to focus my doctoral work on chronic pain populations and help those with TOS and other chronic pain disorders compensate for their disability.
